Capital of Culture main concert

The musical landscape is hard to describe. There's a bit of everything and for everyone planned for our year as the Capital of Culture: Classical and pop, jazz, church choirs, instrumental performances and song, large-scale festivals, and intimate soirees. And as ever, it's not just about listening - but most importantly - about joining in.

Two important musical projects

The RUHR.2010 programme centres around two main projects, which you will keep hearing about during the course of 2010. Hans Werner Henze, one of the greatest living composers of our time, will receive official recognition this year, and !SING is set to give everybody the incentive to join in. The absolute high point of !SING will of course be the DAY OF SONG.

And in addition, TWINS2010 will offer the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit numerous concerts organised by the people of Essen in cooperation with friends from our twinned cities. Essen joins in with Europe - with song - with music - and always with friends.

Naturally, there will be a lot more music on offer during our year as the Capital of Culture - after all: those who have always been involved in music, won't be silenced in 2010 of all years! Keep your eyes, and most of all, your ears wide open so you don't miss a thing!
