Get your fill of culture and art

There is a great variety of venues you can visit throughout the year in Essen, catering to any taste in culture: beautiful parks and open areas, theatres and museums, cinemas, and monuments of our industrial history. RUHR.2010 offers a multitude of spectacular places to visit, so much more than just a 'day out'. Besides: you'll never see it all in just one day!

Restored and renovated

Essen's long standing cultural landscape got a rejuvenating face lift: The 'Alte Synagoge' invites you to experience genuine Jewish culture. The 'Ruhrland' museum has become the Ruhr Museum and welcomes guests at the new location of the Zollverein World Cultural Heritage Site. Museum Folkwang is being rebuilt, and the 'Glückauf' Film Studios are opening their doors to the public after a successful restoration.

The myth of the ugly autobahn

RUHR.2010 will give you reason to forget everything you ever thought about 'autobahns' - after all: they will let you see so much more of the region. Whether autobahn or waterway - all put on their Sunday best for the honour of being Europe's Capital of Culture.

'Ruhr Atoll' and Emscher Island

And don't forget about all the places where new cultural locations are being created! At 'Ruhr Atoll' and the Emscher Island, you will experience art in a new and very unconventional way: you become the centre of all things - no more being left on the outside looking in! Don't miss out!

Get going on your Ruhr 2010 tour!

RUHR.2010 will highlight the beauty of our metropolis: in architecture and landscape, in light, and in works of art. Get going on your Ruhr 2010 tour, don't miss out, and don't give art the cold shoulder in our year of being the Capital of Culture.
