Zeche Bonifacius (Bonifacius Colliery)

Boniface Colliery

The Zeche Bonifacius in Essen-Kray bears witness to the economic development of Essen circa 1900 and, with the Carl Colliery and the Zollverein, marks the end of an era. They bear witness to the development of mining in the region.

The above ground facilities (pithead baths, turbine hall, wages hall and association hall) were built between 1899 and 1905, and have been completely renovated. The site offers numerous leisure activities, and the entire complex is accessible in guided tours.
