More than 170 long distance trains daily, 6 regional express lines, and 2 regional train lines, plus over 200 trains on 5 S-Bahn suburban railway lines connect Essen with the region and the rest of Germany. The station will be modernised by the start of the Capital of Culture year, and will offer visitors to Essen premium travel services.
Essen also has a direct connection to four autobahns via which the whole region can be accessed.
